He’s Just a Tourist Guide

qianmenQianmen is one of the nearest old city gates of Beijing to Tiananmen Square. Lots of tourists here on a daily basis.

dsc04902He’s a self-employed tourist guide. He’s had no proper training, no official certificates of any kind.

dsc04903He spoke randomly to tourists and tried very hard to find someone to hire him as a guide.

dsc04909He spent 10 minutes telling him the story behind the gate as a test drive. The badge on his chest was probably self-made.

dsc04910The man finally walked away, not interested, not impressed, or simply didn’t want to spend money on some stories.

dsc04911He was still smiling but a slice of disappointment can be found on his face.

dsc04912He started to look around again,

dsc04913trying to find someone that can appreciate his stories and buy him dinner.

Street guide can be ok, but you need to try your luck with this random choice. It’s recommended to have a professional tour guide booked in advance. The guide can know clearly of your needs and interest, and saves a lot of trouble while traveling.
