During the next a couple of days I’ll be teaching you some of the newest Beijing vocabulary. These are the most fun, up-to-date, and cool vocabulary being used by the younger generation of the city.
It’s fair to say that the young Beijingers’ thinking towards life and being, attitude towards the adult world, and their way of life are all reflected in these new words, phrases, and expressions. But I prefer not to be scholarly. It’s just essential for you to learn in order to stay updated among this young community in Beijing.
So, today’s word would be…
First, look at it closely, doesn’t it look like an awkward man’s face?He must be feeling puzzled, depressed, and can’t do anything about it. Yes, it means exactly that.
Don’t try to fetch a dictionary, it’ll tell you it means “light and bright”, which is not fun at all.
This word was first made popular by members of mop.com, who were mostly born in the 80s or after.
Li Ning (one of the most famous athletes in China, the guy who lit the torch at the 29th Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, and owner of the most famous domestic sports wear brand “Li Ning”) even made a series of sneakers featuring the word. Check out the pic below:
That’s it for today. Stay tuned for more interesting new Beijing vocabulary.
